FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dancing in Place at Urbanscapes 2018
KUALA LUMPUR, 20 October, 2018 - “Dancing in Place”, a production of MyDance Alliance aims to showcase new dance works that would allow Malaysians to appreciate and reimagine KL’s urban spaces.
“Dancing in Place” provides an engaging outdoor dancing experience wherein the audience are able to watch the dancers perform up close at multiple locations across town. Starting from Urbanscapes House, there will be four different dances at four locations, including River of Life, Medan Pasar and Chinatown - all of which are historical sites.
The performance will take place over three weekends from 3-18 November at Urbanscapes, one of Malaysia’s longest-running creative arts festival. Program A will be happening from 3-4 November, follow by Program B from 10-11 November and ending with Program C on 17-18 November.
Admission is free of charge, but donations are welcomed. The programs will feature a diverse range of local dancers, with a different group performing each weekend.
There are several dancers to look out for during this event. Lim Pei Ern who will be performing in the first week, has a ballet and rhythmic gymnastics background. She is certified by the Royal Academy of Dance under their ballet program and represented Sabah in the 2006 SUKMA Game.
Lee Ren Xin, an independent dance artist and performance-maker will be performing in Program B. She has been a part of several notable events, among them Version 2020 - a collaborative effort with Mark Teh of Five Arts Centre, which has toured to Festival SpielArt in Munich as well as Theater Commons Tokyo.
Performing in the third weekend is Rithaudin Abdul Kadir, or better known as DinSabah. He is currently pursuing his Masters in Dance and while his strength lies in traditional dance, he has also been exploring the contemporary through pieces like his recent full-length work Ketika Bumiku Menari at DPAC.
MyDance Alliance is a young flourishing society comprising of members that are passionate in forming a community to champion dance in Malaysia, while unifying dance practitioners and enthusiasts alike.
The society’s objectives is to promote and support the different categories of dances in Malaysia - from cultural to contemporary dances. Apart from that, they also intend to form a network organisation that allows dance enthusiasts to connect both locally and internationally.
